Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways are hiring for various roles, including Station Cleaner, Food Preparation Team Member, Food & Beverage Assistant, Chef, Booking Office Assistant, Food & Beverage Supervisor, and Bartender
Principal Accountabilities:
- Work in a safe and efficient manner at all times;
- Ensure that mask wearing, hand washing, and social distancing measures are complied with at all times when dealing with other staff members and the public;
- Ensure that staff and public have access to hand washing facilities and/or hand gel at all times;
- Ensure a high level of customer service and care;
- Ensure customer drinks are prepared and served according to Company specifications and customer’s wishes;
- Assist waiting on staff by serving drinks to customers at table if required;
- Assist waiting on staff by collecting glasses and clearing tables as required;
- Ensure glasses are cleaned and put away promptly;
- Be proactive with customers and encourage ‘upselling’;
- Handle and process cash and credit / debit card payments;
- Ensure takings are counted, recorded and ‘banked’ at end of shifts as required;
- Ensure cash and keys are handled responsibly and according to Company policy;
- Input new ideas for service and products to maintain competitiveness;
- Monitor, anticipate and react to customer needs in order to ensure maximum customer satisfaction;
- Ensure prompt action is always taken to resolve complaints;
- Ensure Customer safety by ensuring incidences of unruly or unsociable behaviour are dealt with promptly;
- Adhere to licencing laws and Company policies regarding prevention of underage drinking and use of the Bar;
- Ensure high standards of cleanliness throughout the bar and cellar;
- Assist with Cellar Management of the real ale bar as required;
- Strictly adhere to food hygiene rules and guidelines;
- Assist with the management of bar stock:
- Check & sign for deliveries;
- Ensure deliveries are stored correctly;
- Ensure stock is always within date and rotated as required;
- Record wastage;
- Assist with stock-takes as required.
- Be aware of relevant Company policies and work in line with them;
- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene at all times and maintain a smart and tidy appearance in line with Company uniform requirements;
- Assist with catering for special functions and events as required;
- Attend departmental meetings as required;
- Other work as required.
Job Context
The post holder reports to the Front of House Manager. Day to day tasks may be set by the Head Bartender or the manager / supervisor on duty. In the absence of the Head Bartender the post holder is responsible for the running of the bar. The Post Holder may be required to work daytime or evening shifts and weekend working will be required.
- Experience, Knowledge, Qualification and Training:
- Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
- Excellent numeracy skills;
- Pro-active in problem solving;
- Able to work on own initiative;
- Smart appearance conforming to uniform requirements is essential;
- Experience of working in a busy bar is desirable;
- A qualification in Food Safety is desirable but not essential;
- Ability to speak Welsh an advantage;
- Knowledge of the Railways and their customers; and knowledge of the local area is desirable.
